学校 (gakkō)
A place where children go to learn, taught by teachers. Also used for colleges and universities in some contexts.
In British English, say 'go to school' (no article) when you are a student: 'She goes to school.' With the article it means visiting: 'I went to the school to meet the teacher.' Common collocations: primary school, secondary school, school uniform, school holiday.
In the UK, children wear a school uniform — usually a specific colour blazer, tie, shirt, and trousers or skirt. School holidays in Britain include six weeks in summer, two weeks at Easter, two weeks at Christmas, and half-term breaks in between.
