Grammar Notes

Note: 'four' and 'for' sound very similar. 'Four' = number 4; 'for' = preposition meaning with the purpose of ('a cup for tea'). The 'u' in four is silent — it sounds like /fɔːr/.

Cultural Notes

In British English, 'all fours' means on your hands and knees. 'Four-leaf clover' is a symbol of good luck — a normal clover has three leaves, so finding one with four is rare and lucky. Four o'clock is traditional afternoon tea time in Britain.
